Unicorn Inspired Makeup Tutorial

It’s been absolutely ages since I’ve sat down and created a new makeup look with a specific theme in mind. I also remember when I first started my blog I was so into colours and though I do still love colour I gravitate into more wearable shades for work. I wanted to bring back the colour with a less than wearable look that would be fun to create and reignite my love for colour and it’s worked, I had so much fun creating this and I love the final colour palette, I hope you love it too!

I always start my eye makeup with an eye cream as it brightens the eyes, helps to smooth out any texture, hydrates and removes any residue from the night before. My current go-to is the Superdrug Vitamin E Eye Cream since it’s cheap and cheerful. Next up is eye primer, I like the MUA Pro Base Eye Primer as again it’s affordable and it does the job, this isn’t a smoothing one but it definitely helps eyeshadows adhere to the skin as well as increasing their pigmentation.

As I knew I was going to be using colours I wanted them to pop so the Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk is great as a base. I just scribble this onto my lids and then use a dense fluffy brush to blend it out. The main shade I used across the lid for this is the Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Tonic it’s a fantastic lavender with a blue shift, I applied this over the entire lid. Next for the crease I used a deeper purple from my BH Cosmetics 88 Shimmer Palette, as I was blending this I realised the tone wasn’t distinct enough so I went back in with a more red toned purple to add more dimension and then blended all of the shades together with a fluffy brush.

It hasn’t picked up well on camera but I continued stacking shades, above the crease to the brow bone I used a pale pink from the same BH Cosmetics palette and then went over this later with my highlighter to add a pink pearly sheen. I have hooded eyes and a dry lash line so I find liquid liner hard at the best of times so I skipped that step. Instead I used the Soap and Glory Smoulder Kohl in Superblack on my tightline and then my Rimmel London Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl in Nude on my waterline. I decided I wanted some blue on my eyes so I used a mint shadow from the same palette across my lower lash line and then using a thin eyeliner brush I created a wing with this instead.

Once I was done with shadows I added plenty of my L’oreal Telescopic Mascara on my upper and lower lashes before going in with my Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. I have the new 00 shade which to be honest is almost grey on me, I’ve also found lately that this concealer doesn’t last and it can cake and crease by a damp Beauty Blender dramatically improves how it sits. For my brows I wanted them full but not overly heavy so I used my trusty Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz and then the powder in my Sleek Brow Kit to set them.

My skin hasn’t been great lately, I have a lot of redness, pores and a lot of oiliness when I never really used to suffer from that. As a result, I have a lot of painful red spots so I’ve been using the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo as a moisturer to ease my skin. Once that’s sorted I move onto my new favourite SPF and Primer in one, it’s the Body Shop Skin Defence Essence with SPF50, it’s so lightweight it sits under makeup perfectly and it makes me feel good using factor 50 and knowing that I’m protecting my skin.

Before foundation I’ve been using illuminators under the skin for added glow, it’s not pictured but since I was using a lot of pink I opted for the Nars Illuminator in Copacabana which I used on my cheekbones, nose, brow bone and cupids bow.

Next is foundation and I picked up the Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation again today so decided to use that. It took a bit of getting used to since I’m now a regular user of the Estee Lauder Doublewear, I had to build it up a lot and then let it dry but we got there in the end. Since I wanted this look to be quite fresh and dreamy I decided to skip bronzer and I draped instead using the Benefit Dandelion Blusher on the apples of my cheeks, lifting it up to sculpt my face.

What I love about the MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighter in Pink Shimmer is that you can apply it softly for a subtle glow or you can build it up for a super intense wet look highlight. Today I wanted to be gleaming from space so I applied it quite heavily and then used a damp sponge to take away the harsh line-like finish of it. Since I wasn’t using a full coverage foundation I used my No7 Creme Touch Powder which I’m trying to use up on my nose, chin and oily areas.

I told a bit of a lie earlier, before I start on my makeup I always scrub my lips with the Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub and then I add a lip balm. Today my balm of choice was the Vaseline Rosy Lips which is an old favourite, I love the smell and the tint and this reminds me of my mum since she used it. I did want a bright pop on the lips as well so I used my Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa for a punchy pink lip.

Here’s the finished look!

I’m really happy with this, it was super fun to create and it definitely gives me unicorn vibes! If you enjoyed this post please hit the like button and let me know in the comments what you think of this look and if you like the unicorn trends.
