MAC Liptensity Lipstick in Medium Rare Review

Can you believe it? I actually managed to use up a full lipstick! It was MAC’s Brave which I love so much I wore it daily until I used up the lot. I was in need of another muted pink that I could wear as my MLBB shade and since the MAC’s Liptensity lipsticks were available I decided to give the shade Medium Rare a try. Read on to hear my thoughts.

The Liptensity lipsticks come in different packaging to the short rounded top black packaging. These shades come in these slimmer cylindrical tubes with the lid corresponding to the colour. These lipsticks are more expensive than the standard lipsticks and retail for £17.50.

MAC describe their Liptensity lipsticks as the following:
A Lipstick with enhanced amounts of pigment for extreme colour intensity.”

Online, MAC describe the shade Medium Rare as a creamy soft pink. Originally I wanted Doe until I realised it was a nude so I was hoping this would be slightly darker. I did swatch this in store and as you can see from above, it is as the name would suggest a soft muted pink however, on the lips this appears much paler.

The formula is creamy when swatching however, on the lips this has a lot of drag. One thing I also don’t like about a lot of Mac’s lipsticks (namely the paler shades) is that it has this weird glazed effect where it’s very obvious that you’re wearing a lipstick and the texture separates a little bit of any dryness.

Clear case in point, the lipstick has been applied in more than one coat and you can see in the middle where it doesn’t adhere to the lips very well, it kind of sits on tops of the lips but reveals every detail which is unflattering. The shade appears paler than it does on the swatch and it’s hard to get the pigment to appear on the lips. To work with this I do have to pat it down a lot and it feels fairly heavy on the lips.

Overall, I am a bit disappointed with this, I can forgive the shade but the formula is disappointing to me. I’ve heard a lot of people rave about these lipsticks but I’m not sure, there’s other lipsticks that are better and for the price these should be creamier than they are. I wouldn’t recommend these and I probably wouldn’t repurchase either.

The MAC Liptensity Lipsticks are available from MAC for £17.50.

I hope that you enjoyed this post and if you did please hit the like button, let me know in the comments if you have tried these lipsticks and what your go to MLBB shades are, my top three are: Essence Natural Beauty, Urban Decay Fiend and MAC Brave.

I love the packaging of this line of lipsticks! At first I didn’t love the formula (I thought it was drying) but I’ve since gotten more used to it. I have the shade Smoked Almond. I agree – there are better lipsticks on the market!
