If there’s one makeup item that always makes my heart skip a beat it has to be highlighter. Anything that promises glow, sheen and general loveliness is something that I rate, especially when it’s by a brand as esteemed as Nars. The Nars Illuminator is something that I’ve had in my stash unopened for a while and something I’ve been longing to try for even longer so here’s my overdue review.
Starting with the packaging, this is housed in a black box with the Nars branding and then the product itself is in a clear squeezy tube. The packaging I don’t think is overly exciting but I do like the plastic, squeezy tube it’s practical and easy to store. The price is £23.00 for 30ml of product so not cheap but a little goes a long way.
Nars describe this illuminator as the following:
“NARS Illuminator lights the skin from within. A collection of light-reflecting liquids that glide on to refresh and enhance the complexion with shimmering incandescence. Deceptively sheer, decidedly luminous. Can be applied all over the face or used as a highlighter and can be worn under, over or mixed with foundation.”
Available in four shades I have Copacabana which is the most stunning cool-toned icy pink shade. I actually love icy highlighters so anything oyster pink, white or pale silver is right up my street. As you can see this is intense one small blog can deliver this high pigmentation which is blendable and easily sheered out or built up to your preferred intensity.
As you can see this is easily blendable and the formula is not too thick so you can wear it under or over makeup. I find that over foundation this can move my base if I’m not careful so I usually apply this intensely under my foundation so I have a luminous glow shining through. You can of course go bold and wear this over foundation or even mix it in your foundation for an all over glow, as mentioned above a small amount goes a very long way!
I think a lot of people may be afraid to use this with it being a liquid formulation but I urge you not to be! The liquid formula means that you can use this in many different ways, it’s also great for different skintypes especially in the summer! What I really like is that you can use this with a highlighter brush too, so I use my Real Techniques Foundation to apply this and then my fingers to blend the edges and it works like a dream!
This does have a small amount of shimmer in it but read shimmer not glitter, when I wear this I see an icy pink glow rather than copious amounts of glitter everywhere so don’t worry!
This stays on all day and the formula is neither too thick or runny so you have time to work with this and it won’t slip and slide around. Overall, I adore this it’s a beautiful product and I can see why so many people love it, I’d definitely recommend or repurchase.
The Nars Illuminator in Copacabana is available from Feel Unique for £23.00.
I hope that you enjoyed this post and if you did please hit the like button, let me know in the comments if you have any recommendations for any icy highlighters! I really like the look of Jeffree Star’s Skin Frost in Ice Cold Highlighter and I have to admit I said I’d never buy from him but I’m so tempted!
