Anyone who knows me well or has been a long time follower of this blog knows that I’m a huge fan of Barry M Nail Polishes, with a wide selection of shades, a variety of formulas and finishes and a budget friendly price tag it’s not hard to see why they’ve become so popular for nail polish addicts everywhere. The Silks Collection is one that I’m very much on the fence about, some of the colours I adore but wish they had a different finish, some of the shades I love and some I don’t, so today I present you with the shade Orchid and my thoughts.
This is the shade Orchid and it’s a beautiful pink toned violet shade that I absolutely adore. I’ma huge fan of purples and this is an absolutely stunning shade, so I was very excited when I picked this up. Like all of the Barry M Nail Paints, this comes in the same square bottle with plenty of product for your money, all of these have a thin, standard polish brush and this is priced at £3.99.
The best way I can describe the formula of these is that when you apply them they dry to a frosted finish, this range started with a selection of pastel shades but has since branched out to include darker and brighter shades as part of the collection.
It took only two coats for this look in the photo here, as you can see my nails still have shine but there’s more of a metallic frosted finish rathet than a standard glossy cream finish. I have to say the polish goes on easily and although it may look messy after one coat, a second coat is enough to fix any patchiness and end up with a smooth even coating.
Unfortunately chipping is a major issue, this photo was taken after a week of wearing the polish and it’s nearly all come off with a few stubborn patches. You may think that a week is a fair time for a polish to chip however, I have found that on me without a topcoat the Gelly Hi Shine Range by Barry M lasts a week without chipping whereas this chipped after one day.
Overall I do like the colour but not the formula, I would keep this but I have a lot of nail polishes and I know that Rachel is dying to get her hands and nails on this! I probably would still purchase other shades in the range I think I prefer the pastel shades to the darker ones, but I would say that chipping is an issue and a top coat may affect the finish.
The Barry M Silk Nail Paints are available here for £3.99.
