When I purchased this nail polish I was looking for a good yellow nail polish to fit in with my collection. I like doing nail art and I had realised that a lack of a yellow nail polish meant that some of my designs were restricted. I purchased the Maybelline Colour Show Nail Polish in Electric Yellow hoping that this would be my go-to-yellow but unfortunately it just doesn’t float my boat, here’s why.
In terms of price this isn’t too bad priced at only £2.99. It isn’t the cheapest nail polish I own but isn’t the most expensive either. With the brand being Maybelline I was expecting reasonable quality. The packaging is pretty plain and doesn’t stand out to me much.
In terms of the colour this is a really bright yellow which I like but unfortunately it doesn’t translate well onto the nails. After one coat you are left with a sheer, streaky colour and you do have to layer up the coats to make this opaque. Even then it doesn’t look great.
The brush is just a standard nail polish brush and there isn’t anything special about it. This is supposed to be a gel based formula so I expected a glossy finish and good longevity especially when you compare this range to the Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Range but this just didn’t deliver.
The polish did have a gloopy formula despite being relatively new and applied terribly, the formula is so streaky that even if you are a nail technician and are great at painting nails you will struggle to make this work.
Longevity is poor, on it’s own this polish will not even last an hour before chipping terribly. I applied my trusty Seche Vite as a topcoat and even then it didn’t stay on for even a few days.
Over all I’m extremely unimpressed with this polish and would not purchase another polish from the range. I have taken into account that for some reason yellow nail polishes are difficult to make apparently but even so this one just had nothing going for it. I’m just glad that this wasn’t an expensive polish otherwise I would have been gutted.
The Maybelline Color Show Nail Polishes are available at Boots for £2.99 here.
