Clash of the classic reds

Fashion is known for changing continuously but whether you’re a bohemian babe or an indie icon, there’s one make-up trend that is completely timeless and that is the classic red lip.
I’ve put two lipsticks to the test to find out which one is better at creating a long-lasting, on trend and vibrant lip colour.
The Lipsticks that have been tried and tested are Covergirl’s Lipstick in Flame and Estee Lauder’s Signature Lipstick in Scarlet.

Looking at the Packaging I definitely preferred the Estee Lauder lipstick. The Covergirl lipstick is smaller and takes up less space in your make-up bag but the gold casing of the Estee Lauder lipstick definitely looks more expensive and connotes luxury.
Colour and Pigmentation
With reference to colour it really depends on what outfit you’re wearing. The Covergirl lipstick as shown definitely has a higher pigmentation than the Estee Lauder lipstick however the colour of the Covergirl lipstick is more on the orange side of red so for me I prefer the Estee Lauder lipstick simply because I prefer the pinky-red shade. For skin tones the Covergirl lipstick will definitely suit darker skin tones but for me who has very pale white skin (yellow based rather than pink based) the orange shade made me look washed out whereas the pink shade of the Estee Lauder lipstick brightened up my skin.Image

When applying both Lipsticks I noticed that Covergirl’s Lipstick only needed one coat and was definitely moisturising for the lips whereas Estee Lauder’s lipstick was a lot dryer and led to more damaged lips. For both lipsticks I would still strongly recommend using a thin coat of lip-balm before applying or at least apply lip-balm when you’re not wearing lipstick to prevent drying of the lips.

Staying Power
Although Covergirl’s lipstick was more moisturising for the lips, Estee Lauder’s Signature Lipstick lasted a lot longer and stayed on for several hours. Covergirl lipstick is still great for wearing to the shop but for a night out I would definitely recommend the Estee Lauder Lipstick.

Overall Winner
Covergirl Lipstick in Flame(3/5)
Estee Lauder Signature Lipstick in Scarlet (4/5)

I preferred the Estee Lauder lipstick overall mainly due to the shade of red and the longevity however for those who prefer more orange shades of red Covergirl’s Lipstick is an excellent alternative and it keeps your lips moisturised too!

Get it now!
Although this particular lipstick by Covergirl Cosmetics appears to be no longer sold, an excellent alternative can be purchased here for $7.49

Again this exact lipstick by Estee Lauder is no longer available (damn you make up brands creating so many different ranges so quickly) however almost the exact same lipstick can be purchased here for $22.50
